Anarchist and libertarian socialist publisher AK Press have issued a statement for Pride season, promoting their range of LGBTQIA+ titles. Among the printing press's titles are The Other Olympians, the fascinating story of Zdeněk Koubek, one of the most famous sprinters in European women’s sports, who in 1935 declared he was now living as a man, and British Field athlete Mark Weston, who also presented as masculine, despite being assigned female at birth. In this new study, Michael Waters uncovers, for the first time, the gripping true stories of Koubek, Weston, and other pioneering trans and intersex athletes from their era. Also on offer is Maroon's, the second novel by adrienne maree brown, in which a post-virus landscape of Detroit sees people working to live together and rebuild lives and community. And in The Future is Disabled, Leah Laksmi Piepzna-Samarasinha asks some provocative questions: What if, in the near future, the majority of people will be disabled—and what if that's not a bad thing? And what if disability justice and disabled wisdom are crucial to creating a future in which it's possible to survive fascism, climate change, and pandemics and to bring about liberation?
