Gender identity was explored by the early twentieth century arts school known as expressionism. Now, says LGBTQIA+ arts newsletter Queerguru, a celebration of artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Münter, Franz Marc and Paul Klee will be showing at the Tate Modern in London until October 20th. Many of these art works are being shown in the UK for the first time. Ris Fatah writing at Queerguru.com says "Women were treated equally in the collective and ideas on gender identity were explored. Boundaries to humanity, nationality etc were also questioned. Modern artists in all senses of the words. Life looks sweet and simple, often rural, for this group. Domestic scenes are gentle although, at night, the theatres and the boxing rings were busy." The Tate Modern itself adds " In the early 20th century they came together to form, in their own words, ‘a union of various countries to serve one purpose’ – to transform modern art. The artists rallied around Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter to experiment with colour, sound and light, creating bold and vibrant art." https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/expressionists
