Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee has named and shamed the anti-gay and anti-trans newspaper the Daily Mail and in particular the shameless conspiracy theorist Melanie Phillips as peddlers of “vaccination” mythologies which have contributed to the United Kingdom losing its status as free from measles. As the Daily Mail now turns on its once favourite right wing groups, whom Ms Toynbee describes as “cranks” in the article, a You Tube video of the fanatically anti-gay Phillips has emerged in which she engages in her other pet idea, that global warming is all a great big conspiracy of the liberal elite. Phillips may find that her tenure at the Mail is less secure than previously, when the “anti-vaxxers” were given a mouthpiece in the pages of the far right wing paper, which famously supported Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party right up until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. The paper has a new editor, Geordie Greig, who is reported by media watchers to despise his predecessor, homophobe Paul Dacre, and be committed to moderating some of the paper's embarrassing political positions. A front page turnaround on vaccines for children “Give them a chance.... give them their jab” heralded the paper's turning against the “Anti-Vaxx” movement.
