Population is a Problem as UN Marks Day

25/10/2024

Population Matters, which campaigns on issues of sustainability on a finite planet and the link with the number of humans, addresses its supporters for World Population Day.  The group says "Today is World Population Day, and the United Nations have just released their new population projections. Released every two years, the report predicts future population changes at a global, national and regional level through to the end of the century.  Here are the headlines:

We will add another two billion people by 2063
The world's population will peak at 10.3 billion in the mid-2080s
It will then gradually decline, dipping below 10 billion by 2100

This means ever more people will find themselves trapped in poverty, suffering the impacts of the climate crisis and unable to access the fundamental building blocks of education and healthcare necessary for sustainable development.   Today's projections show that our work continues to be vital".  The organisation continues to campaign against unlimited human reproduction and agitates for education and welfare that mean that there will be smaller family sizes and less strain on future resources.
