Way back in the 1950's it was remarked on how gay and trans people were natural freethinkers, that every idea, every subject, could be up for civilised debate in their bars and cafes and people would make their views known. Unpopular and minority viewpoints were always welcome and people would be listened to with respect. So it is perhaps of no surprise that many LGBTQIA+ people welcome open discussion and debate on our cultural and political institutions such as monarchy. Conway Hall, the freethinking debating house in London, which has long supported LGBTQIA+ visitors will be holding a discussion on the monarchy on 30th August. Their webpage says "We open the September freethinking festival with an exploration of the country's most powerful institution: the monarchy. sking key questions about its role, history, and relevance today, we are joined by Republic CEO Graham Smith and journalist Jenny Kleeman to discuss the current state of the head of state".
