Straight Violence Forces People to Dress Down

27/09/2023

Patrick Kellener, writing for online gay newspaper Pink News notes that a rise in hate crimes against all minorities is making LGBTQIA people less visible, as members of our community are forced to dress more circumspectly to avoid attracting unwanted attention from homophobes.  James Barr from the award winning podcast A Gay and a Non Gay, is interviewed and says he “regularly” comes up with ways of disguising himself in public to avoid unwanted attention. “It even comes down to rainbow socks. I’ll be really nervous to put rainbow socks on. I don’t even know why. You just think, I don’t want to give someone an excuse.” he says.
