Channel Five television has started broadcasting the campy, gay friendly classic series The Golden Girls on a weekday lunchtime. Following the lives of four elderly ladies sharing a house in Florida, the programme origionally was made in the US between 1985 and 1992 and gained a huge following in the UK thanks to a Friday night slot on Channel Four. With airheaded Rose, man chasing Blanche, and hilarious mother and daughter combination Dorothy and Sophia, the programme also dealt sensitively with issues of the day including HIV, homosexuality, animal welfare and sexism. But it was characterised by wise cracks and a fast flowing humour. If you've never seen the programme before, then check it out on lunchtimes at 12.15pm.
