Co-op Podcast Looks at Fairtrade History

09/09/2020

The latest edition of the Co-op Podcast has been published to the retailer’s website.  Hot on the heels of an examination of veganism and why it has broken out from the alternative lifestyle movement into the mainstream of society, comes another edition that will interest LGBTQ people who are interested in the choices they make and how they impact society and environment.  The new episode is about Fairtrade, a movement towards international trade justice started in the UK in the 1970s by an unlikely coalition of radical left wing, Christian, anarchist and ecological groups.  When interviewed by survey experts, a greater proportion of LGBTQ people say that they are conscious of the ethics of what they buy than solely heterosexual or cisgender people.  Hosted by BBC Radio presenter Yasmin Evans, the weekly podcast is part of the Food Co-operatives social activism, which also includes its commitment to Pride events.
