The LGBTQIA+ community can sometimes experience body discrimination, although there are cultures of resistance, through lesbian feminism’s rejection of patriarchal notions of acceptable female bodies, to the Bear Community’s celebration of a wide variety of gay and bi male shapes. Now a project out of London is offering the opportunity to celebrate all body sizes and shapes whilst building an inclusive fitness community. Smash Mind and Body has personal exercise trainers, fitness classes via Zoom and yoga instruction from LGBTQIA+ and allied practitioners. The founders of the project say “Unique online and in-person classes that put zero emphasis on weight loss, changing your body shape or transformation posts - our ethos is that the more kindness you offer yourself, the more you value this amazing body of yours!”. Their latest initiative is to join up with AIDSMap to formulate “Positive Fitness”, and inclusive exercise class for people living with HIV. To learn more pop along to smashmindandbody.com
