Many of us will be familiar with the activism and work of Peter Tatchell, a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front London, ACTUP London and OutRage!. He has written extensively on LGBT activism and advocates a self-empowered, engaged community building its own institutions. But you may not know that he also has interests in many other areas and has written on subjects as diverse as atheism, republicanism, and self government for Cornwall, or as I should say in the Cornish language, Kernow. He is also a supporter of Animal Aid, a long standing animal rights agency that campaigns for better treatment of animals. Founded in 1977, the charity has helped revolutionise attitudes towards farming, animal welfare and slaughter. This month, Peter and other Animal Aid activists are lauching a campaign to “Try Vegan This June”. The organisation says: “The Summer Vegan Pledge is the perfect opportunity for those who aren’t yet vegan to give it a try for the month of June. Participants will get all of the help and advice they need throughout the month, and beyond. They will receive a Welcome Pack which is full of nutritional advice, recipes and advice on alternatives to animal products, as well as discount vouchers for some of the UK’s most well-known vegan eateries!” Many LGBT people are interested in fields such as vegetarianism, veganism, animal rights and organic farming, so if you fancy signing up for the month, visit the Animal Aid Website. We have linked to it on our news feed.
