The US Supreme Court, despite being stuffed with conservative justices, has still handed down a decision in favour of keeping samesex marriage legal across the United States. The Human Rights Campaign, a centrist LGBT+ campaign group based in Washington, reported that "Love has, once again, won out". Gay magazine Attitude summarised the case as follows: "Christian fundamentalist Kim Davis, a former Kentucky county clerk who was sued by a gay couple after she denied them marriage licenses, asked the highest court to reconsider the law legalising same-sex marriage nationwide... Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said in a statement: “Today, love won again.” She added, “When public officials take an oath to serve their communities, that promise extends to everyone – including LGBTQ+ people. The Supreme Court made clear today that refusing to respect the constitutional rights of others does not come without consequences.” " But British LGBTQIA+ and human rights activist Peter Tatchell wrote that vigilance is still needed, pointing out that conservatives worked insidiously for decades to overturn the federal right to abortion.
