The Metropolitan Police is again reeling after a trial of a formerly serving young officer who it emerged was a member of a far right wing group called National Action, so far right in fact, that it was proscribed around five years ago as a terrorist organisation and since then has largely gone underground, continuing to function under the title of NS131. As with most neo-Nazi groups, National Action and its successor is committed to the ideology of heterosexual supremacy as well anti-Semitism and religious extremism. The officer, Benjamin Hannam from Edmonton was also found to be in possession of an indecent image of a minor, a trait that has been noted in several prosecutions of Nazi paedophile individuals from a variety of extreme groups in recent years. Mr Hannam's school had picked up on his extremist ideology and a teacher raised concerns about his attitude towards immigrants, according to a report on BBC Radio 1. However, when joining the Metropolitan Police, Hannam simply lied about being a member of any proscribed or controversial group. LGBTQ newswire Pink News says that Hannam was only discovered to be a domestic terror supporter when anti-fascist campaigners hacked into a Nazi website and published details of its membership. Hannam was convicted and likely to be sentenced at the end of April.
