South London community station Radio Jackie reports that Twenty-five female police officers are be buddying up with women in Lambeth and Southwark, both boroughs of London, to listen to their concerns about safety. Women taking part will be able to discuss places and times that they feel vulnerable, what worries they have, and what can be done. Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick recently addressed the Women’s Institute about the scheme, telling the assembly that the police are “really eager to learn from the public”. Relations between many women's rights activists and the police have been strained since the forcible break up of a vigil against violence in March.
