Gay Character Reference Testifies to Court

09/05/2021

In a strange case from Leek in Staffordshire, a heterosexual man who threatened a gay couple at their home has been given a community service order and fine after he produced a gay friend to witness that he was not really homophobic. Alex Johnson received a community service order and small fine from magistrates. He had been accused of behaving in a menacing manner towards gay couple Steve Lanza and Jason Smith. The defence case was that Johnson was under the influence of substances at the time of the incident. A character notice was filed to the court from a gay male friend who said that Johnson was not a homophobe and had attended LGBTQ Pride events.
