Kiss FM is running a series of commercials and promotions over the course of May to mark its status of Mental Health Awareness Month. In one of them, the breakfast presenters of the youth music network, which has national coverage, reference the fact that the equally popular young people's soap opera, Hollyoaks, screened on Channel 4 and its subsidiary E4 Network, is exploring transphobic abuse through the eyes of one of its characters. Like them, say the voiceovers, any one experiencing harassment from TERFs, left or right wing extremists and moralisers, can pick up the phone and seek support. This important advertisement will be run through the remainder of the month of May on KISS, and its subsidiary stations KISSTORY, KISS R and B and KISS GARAGE available online and on DAB digital platforms. KISS FM began life in 1985 as a pirate radio station in London broadcasting at 94.0 FM. It was formed out of the ashes of several other soul FM pirates who had been closed down by the authorities. In 1990, it became one of the first pirate stations in London to be offered a licensed to transmit legally, and a frequency of 100.00 MHz was allocated. The station grew to became a huge brand and was eventually sold to the Bauer Radio Group. It continues to play dance and related types of music and is very popular amongst younger people.
