The UK’s Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, is reported by the BBC News Channel to be considering reviewing Gender Dysphoria treatment in England. He has reportedly said that the NHS Tavistock and Portman Trust, which provides gender services for young people is “ideological” in its priorities. The Trust has defended itself, saying that their professional staff already take in to account the whole physical and mental wellbeing of young people referred to them. It is feared by many LGBTQIA people that the Health Secretary is throwing trans people to the proverbial wolves to satiate the right wing British newspapers in alliance with several misguided radical feminists. The charity Mermaids says on its facebook feed: “We're facing a growth in the number of adults - including some very powerful voices - denying the existence of trans children and publicly abusing parents, allies and organisations who support them. As a result, we're seeing a worrying rise in the number of young people and parents contacting our already-stretched helpline and legal unit for support.” For members of our community who want to support trans young people, one can donate to Mermaids UK by visiting mermaidsuk.org.uk.
