The Elton John AIDS Foundation wrote to its supporters and contacts on the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, fifty five years ago. " The Stonewall Riots of 1969 marked a significant turning point in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, when the community refused to tolerate further intimidation, shame, and exploitation. But today, circumstances are even worse for individuals in the 64 nations that still classify LGBTQ+ people as criminals and the 12 where homosexuality is punishable by death." the charity said. "The Elton John AIDS Foundation fights for these communities' rights to get life-saving medication, to protect themselves and others, and to bring an end to the AIDS pandemic. This Pride Month and beyond, we’re standing up against discrimination and building HIV services across 42 countries, building a healthier future and honoring the memory of those at the Stonewall Inn over 50 years ago.... “Despite the urgent unmet needs of the LGBTQ+ community, funding estimates indicate a critical gap in the resources required to protect and uphold their rights,” shared Columbus Ndeloa, LGBTQ+ Portfolio Lead at the Elton John AIDS Foundation."
