Tens of thousands of people participated in the Budapest Pride march at the weekend, says the Euronews TV Channel. The record breaking number of participants often said that they felt that they were marching for their lives, as the Hungarian government has aimed to strip away civil rights and liberties from a number of minorities, with LGBTQIA people in the crossfire on numerous occasions. The Hungarian state has followed other anti-democratic regimes across Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union in conflating gender and sexual minorities with paedophiles. New legislation curtails sex education and mandates heterosexuality only instruction for educational institutions. The European Union has filed several lawsuits against the Hungarian Government on the issue. Some LGBTQIA people interviewed by Euronews suggested that they might seek refuge in a more liberal country if there is no change in the government soon.
