Virgin Radio Group have finished broadcasting their pop up online LGBTQIA station, called Virgin Radio Pride, but they promise that it will return again next year for the beginning of Pride season in late spring. Programmes have included features on a large number of LGBTQIA issues and organisations, including the role of women in rock music with Skin from top rockers Skunk Anansie and showcasing the work of HIV nutrition charity the Food Chain. There have been discussion programmes, celebrity guests and community feedback. Virgin Radio Content Director, Mike Cass said: “We set out for Virgin Radio Pride UK to connect the LGBTQ+ community after a difficult year and create a space for storytelling and celebration of LGBTQ+ culture. RCS Radio Today Newsfeed notes that some of the station’s presenters have included Stephen Sullivan, Felix Rackow, Polly Marquis, Debbie Ryan and Matt Horton. Meanwhile, over on Hits Radio Pride, an LGBTQIA pop up station owned by the Bauer radio group, the programmes are continuing through the Autumn. Newly recruited to afternoons on the network is Olivia Jones, who will be taking over from Paris Munro. Olivia added: “Hosting Hits Radio Pride on the weekend for the past few months has been a joy and I can’t wait to get more involved with the station with my own weekday afternoon show.” Hits Radio Pride is available nationally on the internet.
