Thatcher Re-envisaged as Cabaret Star in Play

11/09/2025

The acclaimed camp masterpiece of alternative theatre, Margaret Thatcher: Queen of Soho, is coming to the Bristol Old Vic in mid October.  Between 15th and 18th October, the play, for which there is an age restriction of 16 years, takes us back to May 1988, at the height of Thatcherism.  Margaret herself has joined the far right rabble of Tory backbenchers in appealing to homophobia, with a new law that aims to throttle the LGBT rights movement.  It is the eve of the implementation of Section 28 and Maggie gets lost in old Soho, ending up in a gay bar where she becomes a star of stage and laughs.  But will she let go of the homophobia before the hateful law becomes active?

Following five sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, UK tours and a West End season, the Iron Lady is back and more fabulous than ever.
