German radio station Channel 292 rebroadcast a rare recording of one of Britain's first out gay radio presenters on Monday evening. The radio station, which was leased a German government transmitter when the German equivalent of the World Service closed down its shortwave broadcasts, covers Europe with a selection of programmes of interest to radio enthusiasts such as our own Steff and Terry. On Monday evening, they played a rare tape of Andy Archer running down the Top Fifty from July 1974 from Radio Northsea International, which was an offshore pirate station operating from off the coast of Holland in the early seventies. Andy Archer worked for a number of landbased and offshore pirates in the sixties and seventies, before joining legal commercial radio when it was introduced. He also had a spell as a continuity announcer for the most south westerly ITV region. He retired in 2011 and according to his colleagues at BBC Radio Norfolk, enjoys watching cricket.
