Dutch AM radio pop station Radio Monique reports that British post-gay and sometimes bi identified singer Morrissey, known for his radical veganism and sexuality fluidity, but also for making several inflammatory remarks and flirting with nationalism, has cancelled several tour dates in the US. The shows are cancelled "due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and the band," his management announced. The cancellations were announced Friday evening on the British singer's Facebook page . An earlier post stated that "Morrissey's life has been seriously threatened in recent days." Earlier this week, Canadian authorities released a 26-year-old man from Ottawa who threatened to shoot the singer at a concert. Gay journalist and broadcaster Mark Simpson, himself a figure that divides LGBTQIA+ opinion, says that Morrissey is ""the anti-pop idol", representing "the last, greatest and most gravely worrying product of an era when pop music was all there was". The homoerotic lyrics of Morrissey and the eighties indie band he fronted, The Smiths, have been widely commented upon. However, as Wikipedia notes, Mr Morrissey has never identified with the LGBTQIA+ movement besides widely being assumed to be a bisexual or pansexual person. He has released several, largely contradictory statements about his sexuality over the last forty years.
