Our own news editor Terry writes "Sade is a name to conjure with. I remember being 10 years old and playing with my first transistor radio in 1984, the breakthrough year for Sade. The singer and band was everywhere on local ILR stations like Radio West, Wiltshire Radio, Gwent Broadcasting and CBC Cardiff. What a sound, smooth sophisticated jazz pop led by a rich soul voice". Variety magazine reports that after a fourteen year absence, Sade is releasing some new material this November, as part of a solidarity project for Trans people. The magazine says "The reclusive singer-songwriter will release “Young Lion” as part of the “Transa” benefit album, arriving on Nov. 22. The project, assembled by non-profit Red Hot, is intended to support transgender awareness and spotlights both trans and non-binary artists. “Young Lion” is dedicated to Sade’s son Izaak, who identifies as a transgender man. “Transa,” which features over three-and-a-half hours of music, includes a mix of covers and exclusive tracks from Sam Smith, André 3000 and Jeff Tweedy. The project has over 100 contributing artists, and is structured across eight chapters and 46 songs — a nod to the eight-stripe rainbow pride flag. Its first single comes from longtime Prince collaborators Wendy & Lisa alongside Lauren Auder on a cover of “I Would Die 4 U.” Wikipedia notes that Sade is One of the most successful British female artists in history, she is often recognised as an influence on contemporary music. Sade was born in Ibadan, British Nigeria, and was brought up in England from the age of four. She studied at Saint Martin's School of Art in London and gained modest recognition as a fashion designer and part-time model before joining the band Pride in the early 1980s. After gaining attention as a performer, she formed the band Sade, and secured a recording contract with Epic Records in 1983. https://variety.com/2024/music/news/sade-first-new-song-in-years-transge...
