On Saturday 9th November, Channel E4, part of the publically owned commercial Channel Four family of TV networks, revisited the Great British Bake Off for 2021, in which the stars of the hit AIDS period drama It's A Sin, penned by gay hero scriptwriter Russell T Davies, competed for the accolade of Christmas celebrity baker of the year. Olly Alexander, Jill Nader, Callum Scott Hywels all participated and the programme was given a thumbs up by reviewers for mixing the out queerness of the contestants with the gentle humour of the much loved Bake Off format. The Great British Bake Off was initially shown on BBC 2 before its soaring popularity saw it move to BBC 1. Then, after its seventh season, the proprietors of the format changed channel, and moved the show to Channel Four and its network of stations. The programme has boasted numerous LGBTQIA presenters in its time on the television, including Sandi Toksvig, Sue Perkins and Matt Lucas. A new series of the main competitive programme, has recently been commissioned and will feature on Channel Four in 2025.
