A great many LGBTQ people make their careers in the caring industries – through the NHS, public health care, in private care facilities or as part of the vast number of unpaid familial and neighbourhood carers who keep our society working day on day. Now a national entertainment and information radio network has launched aimed at delighting and entertaining people who are carers at every level. The new service, called Care Radio, is to be on the internet to start with but hopes to join local DAB multiplexes in many areas soon. Experienced radio personalities and businesspeople have brought their expertise to the new project, which will be trading as a non profit Community Interest Company. RCS Media News says that the station has been made possible thanks to what team member John Dash calls a “staggering” amount of goodwill from the industry. “So much of what is needed to start a radio station is being donated,” he says. “Not only all our broadcasters’, journalists’ and producers’ time, but also our news provision, streaming, app, marketing, website, scheduling, imaging, social media, interactive services and PR are being provided by supporters who share our vision of giving something back to carers for all they do for us every day.” There are estimated to be more than nine million people who participate in the caring economy each day.
