Talking Pictures, the small television station in the UK that specialises in the great history of British film and television, had a treat at the New Year weekend for fans of camp horror, as Vincent Price starred in two showings during the weekend for Matthew Hopkins: Witchfinder General. Set in 1645, midway through the English Civil War, Price plays the self appointed Witchfinder General, unleashing a reign of terror across the flatlands of East Anglia. The movie is considered a classic of British horror, and at the time of its release was heavily censored for some of its more graphic scenes of violence and torture. Vincent Price considered his performance in the film to be have been amongst his best. As well as being a cult and camp classic, we should note that Vincent Price was a long standing supporter of the LGBTQ community. His daughter came out as a lesbian in the later 1970's, and Mr Price became a harsh critic of anti-gay religious groups. He was a member of PFLAG, an organisation representing the proud parents of gay and trans children. He passed on in 1993.
