OFCOM quits Stonewall Equality Scheme

08/09/2021

The BBC News Channel reports that OFCOM, the broadcast and telecommunications regulatory body, is to quit the Stonewall Equalities Scheme, Called Diversity Champions. OFCOM are apparently keen to portray themselves as “neutral” in the continuing debate over transgender and women's issues which has become bitter in recent months. However, other commentators have said that by throwing Stonewall out, OFCOM revealed itself to be little interested in the rights of any group that falls under the LGBTQIA banner and that it was a dangerous capitulation to homophobia as well as transphobia.
