LGBTQ Nation newswire calls out the latest bizarre and factually incorrect claims by right wing and ostensibly “Christian” groups about a book published by pro-diversity doll company “American Girl”. The right wing outrage du jour is “A Smart Girl’s Guide: Body Image”. It guides older readers, of ten years and upwards, about the complexities of body image and encourages them to feel good mental health in their expression of gender. When the book mentions trans issues, it states, “Being transgender is not an illness or something to be ashamed of. If you’re questioning your gender identity — or if you already know for sure that you’re trans or nonbinary — talk with an adult you trust like a parent or school counselor”. Hate groups have had one of their customary melt downs at all this, screaming that the book is “turning three year old children transgender”. Their claims have been debunked as fabricated. The book does not even reference gender affirmation surgery, but transphobic groups have lied that it does. Some commentators have noted that the far right British newspaper the “Daily Mail” has been spreading misinformation about the book. The good news, notes LGBTQ Nation is that “These right-wing responses are unlikely to deter American Girl from changing its book because the company has demonstrated enthusiastic support for LGBTQ+ children. Its Smart Girl’s Guide to Crushes includes advice for young lesbians and bi girls. One of its playsets included a Pride-flag-studded EQUALITY sticker.”
