Remembering Holocaust Amid Danger from Right

27/01/2025

On Monday 27th January, Holocaust Memorial Day was marked across the democratic nations of Europe, on the eightieth anniversary of the liberation of the most notorious fascist extermination and forced labour camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau.  The BBC News Channel transmitted parts of its breakfast programme from the ruins of Auschwitz.  The German state, under the control of the fascist Nazi Party, conducted mass murder on a scale never previously seen in history, killing over six million people of Jewish descent, some five hundred thousand gypsy people, around twelve thousand gay and gender non conformist men, five thousand communists, socialists and political opponents, and also instigating a world war that lead to the additional deaths of around fifty million people across the world.
