Village Bookstore to Host Indian Gay Writer

05/10/2025

East Bristol Books, located in the heart of Bristol's Old Market gay village, will welcome on Tuesday the writer Mahesh Rao, whose latest title, Half Light, considers the decriminalisation of homosexuality in India.  Mahesh will be in conversation with Bristol-based artist Tom Marshman, author of Section 28 and Me.  Set on the brink of India's ruling to decriminalise homosexuality, *Half Light* is a tender, richly atmospheric and elegantly wry story of outlawed desire and the hope of a life beyond concealment. In the misty mountains of Darjeeling, a landslide entraps the guests and staff of a dilapidated hotel. Cooped up inside, two men exchange lingering glances. For carefree Neville, this is one of many exhilarating encounters, stolen kisses in stairways and parked cars. But for Pavan, an employee desperate to avoid detection, their entanglement prises open his carefully contained and solitary existence with unforgettable consequences.  An event held at East Bristol Books on Tuesday 7th October. Doors are at 18:30 with the event starting at 19:00. The event finishes at 20:30.  Adminission is six pounds or pay what you can.  Tickets available at https://www.headfirstbristol.co.uk/whats-on/east-bristol-books/tue-7-oct...
