"Tales of the City" Creator to Visit Bristol

20/09/2021

On October 26th, Armistead Maupin is coming to Bristol's St George's Hall in an evening of conversation and questions. The gay novelist is perhaps best known for his sequence of nine novels collectively called Tales of the City. First appearing as a soap opera in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1978, the stories have inspired a television series and are beloved of people around the globe as they detail the intertwined lives of a blended family of queer people in the city. Maupin's non fiction includes a memoir of his life and times in San Francisco's LGBTQIA scene, in which he advocates the idea of a “logical family” of likeminded people who for many of our tribes, replace birth families. Book reviewer and online personality Simon Savidge will be the host of the Bristol date of the tour.
