Pride March in London is Peaceful & Uplifting

29/06/2024

The BBC News Channel reported that around thirty two thousand people participated in the annual London Pride parade and march in London, comprising over five hundred groups, from religious organisations to gay Conservatives and from lesbian bikers to transgender anarchist organisations and everything in between - clubs, societies, sports groups, the whole gamut of LGBTQIA+ life was showcased in a friendly, peaceful and inclusive parade in which everyone was welcome.  A giant rainbow flag was carried at the front of the march, where many prominent celebrities and politicians were located.  Marchers from the group Queers for Palestine have walked down Piccadilly chanting "there is no pride in genocide".  The 50-person group held posters accusing Israel of genocide and condemning "pinkwashing" - the accusation that Israel takes a progressive position on gay rights to improve its international reputation.  The parade started at Hyde Park at midday and finished at Trafalgar Square where live music, speeches and performances took place. Meanwhile, thousands of people thronged to LGBTQIA+ and friendly venues across London, from vegan cafes to bars and clubs to celebrate Pride in afterhours parties.  As usual, there was no violence and the march was a showcase of a peaceful people who want to build a more just, equitable and caring society.
