There’s an LGBTQIA+ friendly store based not so far from Brighton’s well loved gay village called Gender Free World. Founded in 2015, the company says that it emerged out of frustration with the highly gendered world of high street fashion and a desire to offer different, bold designs for customers. They note “For women this can often mean choosing from a limited range of pink or pastel, frilly, bust emphasising blouses. Where are the bold colours, interesting or fun fabrics and short sleeves? For men there is much more choice but usually assumes a traditional masculine shape with little variation, this is especially limiting for FTM transgendered people”. As well as offering a range of sizes and styles for a broader range of body shapes and sizes, the company’s garments are largely manufactured in Britain, with no sweatshop conditions or child labour. And for those after gifts, there are a range of radical tea towels and tote bags. To browse what is available for our diverse community, visit genderfreeworld.com.
