Australian Gay Radio Station Prepares for Fundraising Day

Community radio stations in Australia have a long history, longer than in the UK. The government of Gough Whitlam legalised community radio as early as 1974. In the city of Melbourne, the city's LGBTQIA radio station Joy is preparing for a fundraising day. Their CEO writes

"We're less than a month from the launch of our annual JOY Radiothon fundraising week! We have so many exciting activities this year, and some new surprises as well! Every year we value and appreciate the community support we receive and how this practical investment propels us to do our very best to be the voice for of of our diverse community. Please consider sponsoring a show, an event, a presenter during JOY Radiothon 2026! I'm excited to announce that our theme this year will be “_____ With JOY”, speaking to our 33 year history and the wide array of different relationships, histories and interactions our listeners and members have had "with JOY" over the decades! We are really looking forward to hearing your stories. Stay tuned for upcoming JOY Radiothon announcements of events and activities, and mark out June 13th-19th in your calendar!"

JOY FM can be heard around the clock online and on 94.9 FM in Melbourne.
