"Your Party" Makes Trans Rights Policy

A new left-leaning political party has formally committed to "trans liberation" as a core principle after a vote at its inaugural conference.

Founded by Zarah Sultana and Jeremy Corbyn, Your Party passed an amendment to include the term in its founding Organisational Strategy. The measure secured nearly 70% of the vote.

The amendment expands the party's stated commitment to fighting for marginalized groups to specifically include "the struggles for the liberation of Palestine, anti-racism, trans liberation, and the struggles of all oppressed people."

While the amendment passed decisively, some opposition during the debate came from members who felt it did not go far enough. One speaker argued that lumping the issues together was inadequate, saying, "Trans rights are hugely important and we should respect that and give it its own place."

The vote follows earlier internal criticism regarding the party's public stance on trans rights. Co-founder Zarah Sultana had previously moved to clarify the party's position, telling The Canary in September that "there is no space for transphobia" within the group.

Her comments came after a then-party MP, Adnan Hussain, faced backlash for agreeing with a social media post stating trans women were "not biologically women."

At the conference, Sultana emphasized the need for clarity, stating, “Trans people have the worst outcomes when it comes to housing, when it comes to health... If we are going to change society for everyone, we have to centre the most-marginalised people.”

The conference was also marked by public tension between the co-founders. In a speech, Sultana criticized the party's senior leadership as a "boys club" and alleged there had been "witch hunts" and "bullying," declaring she "will not stand for this."
