Eight Million Americans including LGBTs, on streets against the Trumpist Government

Millions of people across the United States participated in over 3,000 coordinated protests on Saturday, voicing opposition to the presidency of Donald Trump. The rallies, organised under the 'No Kings' banner, coincided with the president's approval ratings falling to a record low of 36% since his return to the White House.

Organisers claim an estimated eight million people took part in this third major wave of No Kings protests, though this figure has not been independently verified. To illustrate the scale, the weekend's turnout vastly exceeded the approximately 300,000 attendees at the April 2009 Tea Party protests against the Obama administration, which were widely considered a landmark political moment.

What Comes Next for the Movement?

The immense public outpouring raises questions about the movement's future strategy and influence. According to labour news outlet Payday Report, one of the lead organising groups, Indivisible, is now backing the May Day Strong coalition. This coalition is advocating for a nationwide day of action on 1 May under the slogan "No Work, No School, No Shopping."

Leah Greenberg, co-founder of Indivisible, outlined the aims of the planned action. "On May 1, Indivisibles will be joining people across the country with a clear message: we demand a government that invests in our communities, not one that enriches billionaires, fuels endless war, or deploys masked agents to intimidate our neighbours."
