The HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust has been in touch with its supporters ahead of World AIDS Day on Monday December 1st. THT was active in Bristol between the years 2000 and 2020 and incorporated the Aled Richard Trust, which was the first HIV and AIDS service provider in Bristol, having opened on November 5th 1985. Aled Richard was the first high profile person to die from an AIDS related illness in Bristol and Terry Higgins one of the first high profile people on the gay scene to die in London. He had been a DJ at the famous Heaven nightclub in London. Now, as we look forward to a cure for HIV, and the long lives people on treatment lead, we can look back and honour the generation that was taken by this virus. Terrence Higgins Trust reports "Terry Higgins, our namesake, was the first named person in the UK to die of an AIDS-related illness in July 1982. He would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year. We're hoping to create the first memorial to Terry in his birthplace of Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and install a plaque to mark the site where Terry was born."
