American singer and actor Billy Porter, who has previously headlined at Pride London and is an important critic of the US system of government, appeared on BBC2's Newsnight programme on Friday 20th June. Mr Porter, who speaks eloquently on the intersections of race, class and sexuality in the States, discussed Donald Trump's administration and identified in it a reaction to Barak Obama's term in office. Mr Obama, as a mixed race man, was never intended to break the American system to become President, he said, and now the forces of white supremacy are intending for it never to happen again. Porter starred in all three seasons of the television series Pose, for which he was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards and won the 2019 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, becoming the first gay black man to be nominated and win in any lead acting category at the Primetime Emmys.
