Health and LGBT+ Groups to Protest NHS England Over HIV Drug Access

A broad coalition of health, HIV, and LGBT+ organisations is set to demonstrate outside NHS England's London headquarters this Wednesday, demanding urgent access to the innovative HIV treatment Lenacapavir. The protest, titled "Queue To Nowhere: Demand Lenacapavir Now," underscores growing frustration that the long-acting injectable drug is available in Scotland but not yet commissioned for patients in England.

The action is being organised by groups including the National AIDS Trust, the British HIV Association (BHIVA), ACT UP London, and the UK Community Advisory Board (UK-CAB). They argue that NHS England's delay in securing the twice-yearly injection is denying people a vital, life-saving treatment option, creating an unjust postcode lottery within the UK.

The protest, scheduled for 4:30pm to 6pm on 18 February 2026 at Wellington House on Waterloo Road, will feature a powerful visual tableau. Participants will form a generational queue, with older individuals at the back and younger people at the front, symbolising the HIV epidemic's ongoing impact across ages and a future blocked by bureaucratic inaction.

Organisers plan a choreographed display where a large orange "ball of life" will be passed down the line, with protesters holding symbolic syringes and asking, "Where's our future?" The groups draw a direct parallel to the successful grassroots campaigns that pressured the NHS to provide the HIV prevention drug PrEP, asserting that "direct action saves lives."

They state that with a proven treatment within reach, further delay is unacceptable. The coalition can be contacted for further details at actuplondonhealthcareforall@gmail.com.
