LGBTQIA Human Rights Activist and politician Peter Tatchell has slammed the Green Party conference decision to define Zionism as inherently racist. Mr Tatchell joined the Greens after leaving Labour some twenty years ago. He is no party mouthpiece though, and has always spoken up when he finds homophobia or other bigotry on the left wing of politics. In a statement published last Sunday, Mr Tatchell explained his position. "The Green Party conference passed a motion condemning "Zionism as racism". The Greens already had a strong policy condemning the dispossession of Palestinian people by Israelis. This motion added nothing of substance.

While its defence of Palestinian rights was commendable, its unwise, careless wording has led to accusations of antisemitism.

It supported equality for Jews & Arabs but did not condemn Hamas’s terrorism, antisemitism, misogyny & homophobia." Less than 0.5% of Green members voted for the “Zionism as racism” motion.

I did not.

I stand with the Palestinian AND Jewish people. The motion should be revised".
