The Good Law Project has in its sights two British based television networks, which have broken the reasonable, centrist way in which quality British broadcasting has historically been done. The two networks in question, GB News and Talk TV, are trashy gossip channels, modelled on the Daily Mail approach to reportage, with opinion standing in for cold facts. The Good Law Project says "
Rupert Murdoch’s TalkTV is no stranger to spouting hatred and toxic lies. It takes pride in it, and pretends the rules don’t matter.
But they do matter. And they must be enforced.
In the last 11 weeks, TalkTV has spouted transphobic hate again and again – ignoring the law on broadcasting balance – while the regulator has looked the other way.
Ofcom must take action to stop TalkTV airing attacks on trans people without broadcasting the views of those who support trans rights. It’s up to us to make it happen.
We know this works: just five months ago over 70,000 people complained to Ofcom after GB News aired a dangerous lie about the LGBTQ+ community. The regulator launched an official investigation, and the channel took the programme off air.
Together, we can force Ofcom to take action. But for that, we need numbers. The more people file a complaint, the harder it’ll be for Ofcom to sweep it under the carpet. It only takes two minutes.
