The National Secular Society and the atheist magazine The Freethinker both publish an article from Dr Anthony Lempert, cataloguing religious privilege, and unnecessary cruelty in the practice of male circumcision. In the article, Dr Lempert takes aim at religious forms of the practice, and deconstructs pseudoscience which is used to justify the practice. In the United States, where there is a secular movement to have boys circumcised, the article will find common ground with a push back from gay and bisexual men, who along with heterosexual men's advocates, have united to critique circumcision and question its affects on men's development and mental health.
