Boston Queer Film Celebration Will be Back in 2027

Founded in 1984 by film programmer George Mansour, Wicked Queer is one of the longest-running Queer film festivals in the world. The forty second instalment will hit Boston in April 2027. Apart from 1986, when a fire at the main screening cinema delayed it, the festival has run every year under various names. For those unable to wait until next April when the  festival gets going again, a selection of queer movies is being presented at several venues in Boston this November. Among the highlights are Castration Movie a multi-part postmodern epic by visionary auteur Louise Weard. In this abridged version  Junior Ghosts—Premorphic Drift, Izzy (played by Avalon Fast) seeks out everything in her power to stop her partner (played Henri Gillespi) from transitioning. And there is "Mikey and Richard", a portrait of 80s gay porn icon Mickey Squires and the man who performed him, Richard Bernstein, which turns from a fringe-film historical documentary into an essay on the mysteries and unpredictabilities of acting as a key activity in all our lives.
