BBC "TERF Bias" Condemned as Queer Friendly Network Axed

The British public service broadcaster, the BBC, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that several services were to be scrapped as the corporation aimed to make half a billion pounds worth of savings. Journalistic staff are to go, as well as the complete closure of the radio network BBC Radio 4 Extra, a speech based station which has long entertained a diverse audience with comedy and drama from the BBC's long history of broadcasting. BBC Scotland TV is to close on conventional television, a move which has been slammed by Scottish nationalists, who point out that it is an essential expression of Scotland's aspirations. All these moves will sadden LGBTQIA+ media fans, but it is the fate of BBC Three TV, which is slated to close on freeview and cable platforms, which will cause the most consternation. BBC Three had handled most of the BBC's television programming aimed at the LGBTQIA+ and diverse communities, with shows such as "Ru Paul's Drag Race" and "I Kissed A Boy" being top amongst its offerings. The axing of these and similar programmes in recent weeks, coupled with the closure of the channel, will strengthen criticism of the BBC from our community. Increasingly, LGBTQIA+ people have found the corporation wanting in its coverage of queer lives. In particular, trans activists have slammed the corporation as having been infested with "TERFs", an acronym for extremist types of feminist who do not like transgender people, bisexual people or SM practitioners. They feel that news is biased, reactionary and many feel that the BBC has wasted its traditional support within the LGBTQIA+ Communities.
