An updated rendition of Pet Shop Boys’ musical exploration of Alan Turing’s life is set for its worldwide first broadcast this October, courtesy of BBC Radio 6 Music.

The electronic duo’s piece, titled *A man from the future*, draws upon the story of the renowned mathematician and codebreaker. It was originally developed in collaboration with Andrew Hodges, the academic best known for his biography of Turing.

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe initially presented the work during the BBC Proms in 2014, where they were joined by the BBC Concert Orchestra and the BBC Singers. This freshly revised take features both new lyrical content and altered musical arrangements.

The 2026 edition will be transmitted on Sunday 4th October, airing within Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone programme on BBC Radio 6Music between 8pm and 10pm. Alongside the broadcast, Maconie will sit down with Tennant, Lowe and Hodges to discuss the project’s development, including how they blended electronic textures with conventional orchestral forces.

Later the same evening, BBC Radio 3 will offer its own presentation of the recording, slotting it into the Unclassified strand from 11.30pm until 12.30am. For thirty days following the initial air dates, both programmes will remain accessible via BBC Sounds.

According to Tennant and Lowe, the ambition behind the composition was to craft a lasting musical homage to Turing, honouring both his intellectual achievements and the persecution he endured due to his sexuality. Lorna Clarke, the BBC’s Director of Music, praised the piece as a bold and emotionally resonant homage to Turing’s enduring influence.
