In a continued show of solidarity between movements, new identity flags have been proposed within the LGBT+ community, specifically celebrating individuals who identify as 'KIWIs' and 'Seals'. The designs were shared on the Tumblr blog Fatphobia Busters, a platform known for its work in body acceptance.
The KIWI Pride flag, created by Tumblr user foxdevilaki, represents gay people who are chubby and hairy. The flag's design features progressive stripes ranging from a light green to a mid-brown hue.
Separately, blogger nepstiel has proposed a Seal Pride flag. The term 'seal' here describes individuals who are chubby and hairy but may not appear obviously hairy due to factors like albinism or naturally light-coloured hair. The flag consists of six even horizontal stripes in the following colours from top to bottom: white, off-white, light grey, a purple-ish dark grey, dark grey, and grey. A symbol of a seal in the purple-ish dark grey shade is positioned in the top left corner.
It remains to be seen whether these specific identity flags will gain widespread adoption. The proposals have sparked conversation about the importance of representation and the ever-evolving language of identity within the queer community. Ultimately, many argue that mutual support and acceptance, regardless of where one falls on the spectrum, is the most crucial element of all.
