Queer Radicals Prepare for Bristol Anarchist Bookfair

The gay left and queer activist movements have often had a mutual two way flow of ideas with political anarchism: the idea that the state can wither away to leave a free and peaceful society. The Bristol Anarchist Bookfair is back on 24th October after a delay of several years.

The organisers report: " BAB 2026 will play host to dozens of stalls from across the anarchist spectrum, and a huge array of free workshops, skillshares and trainings. A day long festival of solidarity uniting organisers, writers, artists, locals and visitors to explore anarchist ideas and practice.

Come along and discover thousands of books and zines on everything from direct action, anti-capitalism, climate justice, feminism, decolonization, workers rights, anti-fascism, war, peace, and building a better world, together. Get stuck into the latest conversations on Datacentre Resistance from the crew who’ve won the first victory against them in England, how a Library Bus collective has been breaking down borders for refugees crossing europe, and how communities prepare for food shortages and price hikes. The amazing organisers of Bristol Community Action will be laying out the solidarity needed by Black and Brown Bristolians for resistance to the far right. We’ll hear the latest from the International Solidarity Movements work in the West Bank, TRAN+ on will bring updates on supporting queers in hard times and there’ll be an expert run through of the new protest legislation with the Network for Police Monitoring. You could drop into some Public Order games, a shieldwall practise or a training on how to resist an Immigration Raid. Alongside the Trad Wife to Far Right Pipeline, Radical History zone on the Spanish Revolution, bike maintenance and a whole seperate strand of sessions in the Youth Space.

Whether you are a seasoned anarchist or just dipping your toes in to see what it’s all about, you can expect a warm, family friendly atmosphere, with folk from all walks of life having a thousand discussions, building new links, strengthening old ones and discovering new possibilities and hope for a brighter future.

The venue is highly accessible, there will be a kids space available through-out the day, and the first hour will see special focus given to providing a welcoming space for those with sensory, mobility, and covid concerns.

We look forward to seeing you there!"

Where: Trinity Centre, bottom of Old Market. BS2 0NW. 10:30am to 5pm.
