Italy Celebrates a Rich LGBTQIA Heritage

30/03/2022

Lili Hartlep reports in Gay Times magazine that Italy is marking its first LGBTQIA History Month this April, in commemoration of demonstrations for equality that took place in 1972. Lili describes finding the oftentimes hidden history of Italy’s own home grown gay and trans liberation movements, with stories such as radical socialist activist Mario Mieli, to the owner of a gay bookstore who became a politician to help push for equality. The whole article is available to read at gaytimes.co.uk and you may find some pointers if you want to explore the Italian scene, the politics and the movements that have shaped LGBTQIA life across Italy.
