The Jewish Chronicle newspaper says that gay television host Robert Rinder was the host at the recent gala fundraising dinner for the New Israel Fund – a progressive organisation that aims to strengthen democracy and civil society in Israel for the benefit of both its Jewish and Arab citizens. At the dinner a number of awards were presented in the field of human rights. David Davidi-Brown, NIF UK's chief executive, noted that its achievements had included more social housing for specific groups such as single mothers and Holocaust survivors, greater access to healthcare and the first radiotherapy centre in Northern Israel. He was loudly applauded when he said NIF had put an end to discriminatory measures so that same-sex couples could start a family.
