Iridescent Fly Named for Drag Legend Rupaul

09/10/2021

Queerty.com, a top gay newswire, reports that a newly described species of soldier fly, native to Australia, has been named after drag legend Ru Paul. Opaluma Rupaul is, according to the Australian scientific press, just one of a whole newly discovered genus called Opaluma, to reflect their stunning colourful iridescence. Gay scientist Doctor Bryan Lessard named the Rupaul species. He explained that insects are so vastly important to our ecosystem and food supplies that we need to treasure them. Naming species after popular cultural figures reminds people to keep insect care in their minds.
